Jonah began his journey into musical performance at Beth Emeth Bais Yehuda Synagogue at eight years of age, when he was asked to sing a solo with the childrens choir. Since then, his love of music has grown exponentially. In 2008, Jonah was accepted into the Claude Watson Arts Program at Earl Haig Secondary School where he would study Vocal Music for the next four years. He would further expand his musical journey through solo performances, and singing in various school choirs and extra-curricular choirs as well. He has since studied classical voice at the Royal Conservatory of Music and completed his ARCT in Voice Performance.

Jonah’s first experience of barbershop music was in early 2013 with the Varsity Jews, a Jewish a cappella choir based out of the University of Toronto. He sang with three other VJs members to the tune of Hello My Baby. In the summer, while attending the North American Jewish Choral Festival in New York, he was introduced into “barbershop tag singing” through spontaneous late night workshops. From then, he was hooked. The following month, Greg Mallett, a fellow alumnus of Earl Haig Secondary School, had then asked him if he was interested in starting a barbershop quartet. The rest is history.

Jonah is a graduate in Accounting from Ryerson University and a Chartered Professional Accountant. He conducted the Beth Emeth Choral Group and was Assistant Conductor with the Varsity Jews a cappella choir. He joined the Toronto Northern Lights after founding Yonge Guns with Reuven, Greg, and Chris in early 2014.
